Construction Update

ANDERSON WING

Beginning Monday, April 16 the Anderson wing elevators will not be accessible on the first floor. This closure will last for approximately four weeks. There will be a temporary egress around the elevator lobby. Employees, patients and visitors will need to use the Pool elevators to access the second and third floor of the Anderson wing. Signs will be posted.

Dietary department construction began last week.

KASYCH

Painting and case work has begun on the fourth floor. Drywall, electrical, and plumbing work continue throughout the building. PPL is still working on the alternate feed for the new tower.

SITE RENOVATIONS ON CAMPUS

Crews will be adjusting the grade and creating a berm in parking lot 4A in preparation for the upcoming entrance changes. Work continues in the detention basins at the front and rear of the campus. Permanent trench restorations, curbing and sidewalk will occur in parking lots 4, 5, & 6 over the next month. Topsoil and grass seeding will occur next week near the Bridge, 1250 MOB and the 1250 surface lot (weather permitting.)

FRONT WEST PARKING DECK

Bulk excavation continues and footer/foundation wall installation has started.

New, easy to read exterior signs are in place. Lighting has been installed in the covered tunnel to the ED entrance. Excavation for the new building's micro piles and footers continues.

Departments have been moved out of the first floor on the west side of the building and the volunteer office and library areas have been modified to accommodate construction. Dietary department construction will begin this week.

Work will begin on the third floor in the area of the sleep rooms; some construction noise should be expected in the next few weeks.

EMERGENCY ROOM RENOVATIONS

Water line installation and relocation continues. Portions of the parking lots near the emergency room will be affected for short periods of time as the work progresses.

A visitor assistant is posted at the emergency room entrance from 6 A.M. to 2 A.M. (20 hours) - seven days a week to assist people dropping off patients and help with parking. When the ER lot is full parking passes will be given to visitors for a lot close by the ED.

CENTER FOR ADVANCED HEALTH CARE BUILDING

Tenants will begin to move into the building beginning with the CAT scan
department of Lehigh Valley Diagnostic Imaging (LVDI) in April 07, other
tenants will follow through the end of 2007.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

The pedestrian bridge will open in April 07 with the opening of LVDI CAT scan.

CANCER CENTER TEMPORARY ENTRANCE CLOSING

The new permanent entrance to the cancer center will open by the end of this
week. The new entrance is also the vestibule of the pedestrian bridge on the
cancer center side. The temporary entrance (with the blue canopy) will close.

SITE RENOVATIONS ON CAMPUS - all outside work is weather permitting

  • Parking deck construction in front of the Anderson wing continues.
  • Follow fencing and signs for all pedestrian walkways.
  • Excavation work continues in the detention basin on the south side of the campus.
  • Storm and water line installation continues along the Anderson and Kasych buildings.

EMERGENCY ROOM RENOVATIONS

Work will begin in early February to expand the emergency room. The first phase will be to fence off a portion of the emergency parking lot and establish a new covered walk way into the ED.

KASYCH PAVILION

Crews are working to finish exterior windows and glazing. Interior work includes continuation of mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough-ins. Stud work and dry wall work have begun on levels one, two and three. Work has begun on elevator cars and platforms.

SITE RENOVATIONS ON CAMPUS

The campus ring road near the Kasych Pavilion will close on the following dates in order to install utilities:

  • Saturday January 27 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday February 2 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Traffic will be routed around the back of the hospital during the closures.

Please slow down, watch for signs and traffic control.

Storm and water line installation continues along the Anderson and Kasych buildings.

Excavation work continues in the detention basin on the south side of the campus.

PATIENT AND VISITOR PARKING JUST GOT EASIER

Today, we have more parking available than before and there's more to come. Patients and visitors may use the 5-level parking deck with free shuttle service to the front entrance and the 2-level deck in front
of the hospital.

HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS (CEDAR CREST BLVD)

Starting in February construction will begin along Cedar Crest Blvd., beginning at Fish Hatchery Road. The first stage will be tree trimming and utility pole relocations along Fish Hatchery Road. Future work will include adding turning lanes, updating signs, enhancing storm drainage and re-paving. The projected completion of the construction is November 2007.

The road leading to the main entrance will close on Thurs., Aug. 24 at 8:30p.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed into the valet lot where patients and visitors can be dropped off. The new road will open to traffic on or before Sun., Aug 27.

During this time, Jaindl Pavilion patients will be discharged from the MRI exit. All other patients will be discharged from the Anderson wing door near the medical library.

The road leading to the main entrance will be closed on Thurs., Aug. 24 at 8:30 p.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed into the valet lot where patients and visitors can be dropped off. The new road will open to traffic on or before Sun., Aug 27. More details, including discharging patients during this process, will be coming next week.

The road leading to the main entrance will close on Thurs., Aug. 24 at 8:30p.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed into the valet lot where patients and visitors can be dropped off. The new road will open to traffic on or before Sun., Aug 27.

During this time, Jaindl Pavilion patients will be discharged from the MRI exit. All other patients will be discharged from the Anderson wing door near the medical library.

The installation of precast concrete panels will conclude this week. Mechanical works continues.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

As crews begin painting the bridge that connects The Center for Advanced Health Care with the Cancer Center, lane closures will occur. Traffic control will be in place.

THE CENTER FOR ADVANCED HEALTH CARE

Topsoil, grading and pavement preparation is complete.

MAIN ENTRANCE

This week, the median divider will be set between the front entrance drop-off lanes. The remaining curbing will also be poured this week.

The road leading to the main entrance will be closed on Thurs., Aug. 24 at 8:30 p.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed into the valet lot where patients and visitors can be dropped off. The new road will open to traffic on or before Sun., Aug 27. More details, including discharging patients during this process, will be coming next week.

EAST PARKING DECK

The installation of precast concrete panels continues on the first of two new
parking decks in front of the hospital. Through December, 284 panels weighing
5,761 tons will be delivered to the site. Traffic control will be in place as
trucks enter and exit the site. Use caution when driving near this area.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

Precast concrete panels will be placed and the bridge∞s walking surface will
be poured this week.

THE CENTER FOR ADVANCED HEALTH CARE

The curb, sidewalk, grading and pavement preparation will continue being
placed this week.

 EAST PARKING DECK

The installation of precast concrete panels has begun on the first of two new parking decks in front of the hospital. Through December, traffic control will be in place as 284 panels, weighing 5,761 tons, are delivered to the site.

PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY

Following construction of the bridge's staircases, crews will resume installing exterior panels to the bridge connecting the Center for Advanced Health Care with the John and Dorothy Morgan Cancer Center. Watch for lane closures along the ring road during this time. Traffic control will be in place.

KASYCH FAMILY PAVILION

Installation of window sills has begun in preparation for window installation beginning in mid-August.

DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS

Smoking is not permitted in front of the hospital and we will become totally smoke-free on Jan. 1, 2007. Direct smokers to
